If you have eaten at Texas Roadhouse lately, you may have noticed a small tablet on the table. It is part of Roadhouse Pay, the chain's pay-at-the-table system built with the technology company Ziosk.
What Is Roadhouse Pay?
Roadhouse Pay lets you see your check and pay it at the table, without waiting for your server to bring the bill and card reader. It runs on the Ziosk Mini, a narrow, portrait-style device about the size of a large phone. Texas Roadhouse had passed on older, bigger tabletop tablets because they took up too much table space, the smaller device fit its tables better.
How to Pay With the Tablet
- When you are ready, open your check on the tablet.
- Choose how to split it, by item or evenly.
- Add a tip and pay by card or tap your phone or contactless card.
- Choose an emailed or printed receipt and you are free to go.
How Popular Is It?
According to Ziosk, about 83% of dining-room guests pay with Roadhouse Pay at restaurants that have it, with some locations as high as 95%, and nearly half of those payments are contactless taps. These figures come from Ziosk itself.
Do the Tablets Replace Servers?
No. You still order with your server, who also brings the food and handles requests. The tablet only speeds up the end of the meal, which means tables turn faster on busy nights and waits get shorter. Texas Roadhouse has also tested handheld ordering devices for servers.
Games and Extras
The tablets can offer games for kids while you wait for food. Some games may cost a small amount, check before handing the tablet to a child.
Prefer to Pay the Old Way?
That is fine, just ask your server. Cards, cash and gift cards are all accepted. See Texas Roadhouse payment methods and how to check a gift card balance.
Is It Safe to Pay on the Tablet?
Paying on the tablet works like any card reader: tapping your phone or a contactless card is the most secure option, because your card number is never shown. As always, check your bank statement and ask your server if anything looks wrong.
